After graduating from the University of Illinois College of Law she spent most of her career at Kirkland & Ellis, LLP in Chicago, where she became a partner in the tax group. Professor Loy teaches a unique class on private investment funds, introducing students to business law and tax issues relating to private investment funds, with a particular focus on private equity, venture capital, and hedge funds. Students are introduced to the structures of various investment funds and business law issues important to fund sponsors in choosing entity types. The course uses real-life examples of present day funds and allow students to become familiar with economic, legal, and tax considerations that are involved in representing fund sponsors and investors.
