About
David Aarestad graduated from Bates College with degrees in political science (international relations) and history (East Asian). He did graduate work at the University of Indiana in international relations and contemporary Chinese politics before departing to get his JD at Georgetown University Law Centre, in the evening program. While studying at night, he worked in various positions, including clerking in the Chief Counsel for International Commerce, US Department of Commerce. After passing the bar and clerking in DC trial court, he joined the London office of Herbert Smith, one of the UK’s pre-eminent law firms, where he spent several years advising non-US clients on compliance with US law, mostly but not exclusively on transactional matters. He returned to his home town to raise his kids, where he worked at the Denver office of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, and then at Colorado firm Holme, Roberts & Owen. David has experience in many aspects of international law, including international negotiations, equity and debt capital markets, hybrid securities, self-tenders, exchange offers, cross-border M&A, risk management, Export Trading Company Act applications, the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention, and WTO jurisprudence.
