Law 792:  Animal Law

This class is an introduction to the field of law referred to as “animal law.” We will study a range of legal topics concerning the status and well-being of non-human animals. The course readings will consist of materials about human uses of animals in agriculture and entertainment, wild animals in ecosystems, and companion animals. The overarching theme of the course is to understand whether and to what extent animal protection should be a focus of the law, and whether and how the law should distinguish across different kinds of animals and different settings when acting.

Evaluation: Students will be expected to actively participate during class discussion, and will be writing weekly reaction papers responding to the reading, plus one final paper.
