Law 798:  Affordable Housing and Community Development

This course concerns itself with the laws, regulations, and policy debates applicable to community economic development (CED) lawyers. CED is a strategy for developing low-income communities that involves a range of programs, including affordable housing and business development initiatives. The primary matters considered in this course may include the following (1) an introduction to CED lawyering as a practice area; (2) federal laws affecting affordable housing and community development, including the Community Reinvestment Act, federal grant programs, and federal tax incentives; (3) state and local laws affecting housing and community development, including zoning and land use laws; and (4) special issues such as rural community development, community health, infrastructure, post-disaster development, gentrification, and NIMBY/YIMBY movements.
